About Barsi Ceremony

Barsi Ceremony, also known as Varshik Shradh or the First Death Anniversary Ritual, is performed on the first annual Tithi (lunar date) of a departed family member. It marks the completion of one year since the person's passing and is an important observance in Hindu tradition. The ceremony is performed to express gratitude, remembrance, and respect for the departed soul while praying for peace and seeking the blessings of the ancestors for the family's well-being. The rituals generally include Ganesh Puja, Sankalp, Vishnu Puja, Pitru Tarpan, Shradh rituals, Pind Daan (where followed), Brahmin Bhojan (optional), charity (Daan), and concluding prayers. After the first Barsi, many families continue to observe annual Shradh on the same Tithi every year according to their family traditions. The ceremony may be performed at home, at a temple, or another suitable location under the guidance of an experienced Vedic Pandit.
