About Holika Puja
Holika Dahan Puja, commonly known as Holika Puja, is performed on the eve of Holi to commemorate the victory of devotion, righteousness, and truth over arrogance and negativity. The festival is associated with the story of Prahlad, whose unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu protected him from Holika, symbolizing the triumph of faith over evil. The ceremonial bonfire (Holika Dahan) represents the burning away of negative thoughts, ego, jealousy, and harmful influences, inspiring devotees to begin a new phase of life with positivity and renewed purpose. Families gather around the sacred fire to offer prayers, circumambulate the bonfire (where customary), and seek blessings for happiness, prosperity, family unity, and protection. The ceremony also marks the arrival of spring and the celebration of new beginnings. Holika Puja can be performed at residential societies, temples, villages, community grounds, and private premises where a Holika Dahan bonfire has been arranged in accordance with local regulations and safety guidelines.
