About Ganesh Sthapana & Visarjan
Ganesh Sthapana is the sacred ceremony of welcoming and installing Lord Ganesha at home, office, society, or commercial establishment during the auspicious festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. It marks the beginning of the festival with prayers for wisdom, prosperity, happiness, and the removal of obstacles. During the ceremony, the idol of Lord Ganesha is ceremonially installed (Sthapana) on a decorated altar. The Pandit performs Pran Pratishtha (invocation of divine presence), Sankalp, Shodashopachara Puja (16 traditional offerings), and Aarti while chanting Vedic and Ganesh mantras. Families may keep Lord Ganesha for 1½, 3, 5, 7, 10, or 11 days, depending on their family traditions. Daily puja and Aarti are performed throughout the festival until Ganesh Visarjan. Ganesh Sthapana is a celebration of devotion, family unity, gratitude, joy, and community participation. It encourages devotees to welcome Lord Ganesha with sincerity and bid farewell with prayers for His return the following year. The ceremony can be performed at homes, apartments, housing societies, offices, shops, schools, community halls, and public Ganesh Mandals.
