About Namkaran Pujan

Namkaran Pujan, also known as the Naming Ceremony, is one of the sixteen sacred Hindu Samskaras performed to formally give a name to a newborn child. It is a joyful occasion where family members gather to welcome the baby and seek divine blessings for a healthy, happy, and prosperous life. The ceremony begins with the worship of Lord Ganesha, followed by prayers to the family deity, Navagrahas (if included), and other deities for the child's well-being, wisdom, and longevity. During the ritual, the parents officially announce the baby's name in the presence of the Pandit, family, and friends. Depending on family traditions, the name may be whispered into the baby's ear by the father or another elder after the prescribed prayers. Namkaran Pujan marks the child's formal introduction into the family and society, symbolizing love, identity, and blessings for a bright future. The ceremony can be performed at home, in a temple, or at a suitable venue and may be combined with blessings from grandparents and elders. The rituals are customized according to the family's traditions and regional customs.
