About Mundan or Chudakarana Ceremony

Mundan, also known as Chudakarana Sanskar, is one of the sixteen sacred Hindu Samskaras performed during a child's early years. It marks an important milestone in the child's physical, emotional, and spiritual journey. In this ceremony, the child's hair is ceremonially shaved while Vedic mantras are chanted, followed by prayers seeking divine blessings for health, wisdom, longevity, and a prosperous future. The ceremony symbolizes a fresh beginning and the child's continued growth under the blessings of the Almighty. Lord Ganesha, the family deity, and other deities are worshipped before the Mundan ritual begins. Depending on family traditions, the ceremony may also include Navagraha Pujan or Havan. Mundan can be performed at home, in a temple, at a pilgrimage site, or any suitable location chosen by the family. The ceremony is often followed by blessings from elders, distribution of Prasad, and a family celebration.
